TONY AVELLA TO INTRODUCE CITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION CITING CHINESE COMMUNIST GENOCIDE IN TIBET, AND CALLING FOR REMOVAL OF 2008 OLYMPIC
GAMES FROM BEIJING. INDEPENDENT-MINDED LEGISLATOR TAKES ON AN AUTOCRATIC COUNCIL SPEAKER

New York City Councilman Tony Avella (D.-Queens), a member of a minority group known as independent-minded Councilmembers (Charles Barron, a Brooklyn Democrat, is another), will introduce a resolution into the Council, citing the illegal Chinese Communist occupation of Tibet and the consequent over half century of Genocide there, and calling for the removal of the 2008 Olympic Games from Beijing.

I first brought up this matter with Mr. Avella several months ago in light of his readiness to stand up to the dictatorial Council Speaker, Christine Quinn (D.-Manh.) by op- posing her legislation substantially raising the salaries of Councilmembers and a bunch of already highly paid Bloomberg aides. Ms. Quinn under-publicized the Council hearing on this ripoff but I learned of it from an inner page article in the Daily News and so, occasionally looking up at Ms. Quinn’s icy stare, I testified in opposition to her salary grab bill.

Christine Quinn and I do not get along well at all. One of the main reasons is her Hillary Clinton-connected game-playing on the issue of the Tibet Genocide and opposition to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. To make a long story much shorter, for years, when I lived in Tribeca and subsequently, I had been lobbying, among other legislators, then City Councilmember Kathryn Freed and urging her to introduce a pro-Tibet resolution. I also lobbied Councilmember Quinn who evinced little interest. In 2001 Resolution #802, eloquently denouncing the Chinese Communist for the Tibetan occupation, was introduced and passed unanimously. Taking credit for the work of others (e.g. me and Ms. Freed) Quinn made herself the lead sponsor of the resolution.

Resolution #802 was based on a good deal of information provided by me to Ms. Freed,
and contained much language on atrocities in an occupation that has cost the lives of over 1 million Tibetans and the exile of many thousands of others. Unfortunately, it had zero impact. Why? Because Resolution #802 made no mention of opposition to the Beijing Olympics, the only issue that matters to the Chinese and American governments because it involved gazillions in corporate profits.

Christine Quinn has since arrogantly refused to act on my oft-communicated urgings, most explicitly stated in my January 30, 2006 e-mail to her via her Chief of Staff Chuck Meara, calling for another resolution, which would also call for the removal of the 2008 Olympics from China. You see, Quinn’s boss is the dictator of the Democratic Party in New York State, Hillary Rodham Clinton. Mrs. Clinton, who is up to her eyeballs along with her husband in the coverup of the Genocide in Tibet, is making a lot of money in China along with conspicuously her political pal and fundraising engine, right wing media imperialist Rupert Murdoch. Murdoch, as reported in The New York Times and in UP FRONT News, is guilty of Chinese Communist-orchestrated news suppression, whether about Tiananmen Square, the Falun Gong, or Occupied Tibet.

At a recent meeting involving members of the Board of Directors of the U.S. Tibet Committee Mr. Avella, after listening to accounts from me and the U.S.T.C. of Chinese Communist atrocities, many of an explicitly racist nature, against the Tibetans, said that he will sponsor a resolution, to be drafted in consultation with me and the U.S.T.C., that will cite the Chinese Communist Occupation and Genocide in Tibet and call for the removal of the 2008 Olympics from Beijing. While he hopes that Ms. Quinn will support his resolution, Mr. Avella made it clear that he is ready to challenge her if necessary.

Mr. Avella described some changes Ms. Quinn has made in Council operations since she became Speaker - in a classic back room deal. Ms. Quinn is attempting to control the content of any legislation that is introduced. Apparently her notions as to legislative independence are not unlike those of a certain political leader in relation to the Reichstag in 1934.

Tony Avella is at this point the least publicized of the likely candidates for the Mayoralty in 2009. The most publicized – with, not at all surprisingly most of the puff publicity appearing in Murdoch’s New York Post – is mayoral wannabe Quinn.

Ms. Quinn, thanks largely to UP FRONT News, is being exposed for the pro-developer manipulator that she is. Ms Quinn, with her high-handed vetoing of a proposal to change the name of several blocks of a Brooklyn street to Sonny Abubadika Carson Avenue, has
angered many of the African-Americans whom she has mistakenly been assuming would vote for Mrs. Clinton and her.

In light of steadily rising opposition to the 2008 Beijing Olympics because of China’s aiding and abetting the Sudanese government’s Genocide in Darfur, the “Quiet Genocide” in Tibet starts to get very noisy. Tibet is a campaign issue!
